I need Help with a first build

Hi guys i could really do with some help with my first build. i really want to build a future proof gaming pc but i only have 700 pounds. so if anybody could recommend the parts i need i would be very grateful.

Sorry its my first post on here, didnt really know what i was doing.
Yeah i have a 4 year old desktop that i can canabalise for parts, there is a 1 tb hard drive in it and i can use the dvd drive, but the psu wont be powerful enough if i had a powerful graphics card?

its an antec and its 350w, the old desktop was only made on the cheap by a frien of ours so its not very good computer

because im a student i can get windows 7 professional for £35 from uni so thats not a big expense for me, its the cpu and graphics card i dont know what to buy and what is best for gaming?

i have read some reviews and people seem to lean towards nvidia rather than amd graphics cards. what about the new gtx 660 ti rather than the 7870?

Wow thanks the amd graphics card is brilliant i think i might have to make a purchase pretty soon. Still trying to get hold of my uni to get windows 7 though.

Is that common - specifically does it apply to Brunel or Open University? If so then that could save me a few £ too. (Trying to sort a pc for son to take to Uni).

Yeah its pretty common if your uni is enroled with the websites that do this sort of offer then they should do it. you do need to have a student id number though so it might be worth waiting until your son has his id before attempting to get the software.

JUst wondering on my build would you reccomend using thermal paste on the cpu or is it not worth it?
