I need help with work

Hi all,

I've recently been taken on by a local company for some work.

They are very sales orientated so only see things from a sales point of view. I was taken on because they had a target "2000 blogs in 90 days to get to the top of google searches". Crazy I know, told them it wouldn't work and to concentrate on quality, and there is still no guarantee that we hit the number 1 spot on google.

Now, the main issue I have is that they only see things from their own point of view, they aren't seeing it from the customers point of view at all. I knew what a Will was before i started there but the rest of it was an eye opener. They know the products and think everyone else does too. I've knocked up a quick little google form to see what people outside the industry actually know to see if it backs up what I think.

LINKY

If you could take the time to quickly fill it out for me I would extremely grateful.

Please post any comments back on issues or suggestions etc. First time I've done this and after a solid week of reading terrible 3rd party blogs and pushing SEO etc my brain is frazzled. First time I've found a job in a while that I am actually enjoying and can see some future in so getting them on the right track would be amazing for me!

Done.

2000 in 90 days would probably count against you seo wise unless it's 2000 quality ones(let's be honest it's probably not at that frequency).

It depends on what keywords they want to hit topspot on. "Wills" no chance "[location]wills" could be done depending on the competition in the area.

While I have a will it's not something you're taught in school and a lot of people my age wouldn't even consider having one so it's far from expected that potential customers have a clue what it entails.

Thanks :D

yes, some of the quality has been dire and I've had to rewrite quite a lot. That in itself is a challenge as before I started I only knew what a Will was, things like LPAs and Trusts I'd never heard of.

After 2 weeks I've finally got them to understand that quality is key, 2000 word blog posts would be great, they are implementing new changes as well and as they cover all of Wales and England there's lots to do.

Just hoping if I can show them a little bit of what average joe on the street knows it could help understand what we need to do!

Fingers crossed :D

Thanks everyone that has helped, so far it's sitting just over 100 people and so far it's proving what I suspected :)

Thanks everyone that has taken part so far and i'll take the suggestions for other relationship statuses if I get them to do proper market research. :)

Idiots - they should pay to the top and cancel all other SEO spend (so fire you, unfortunately)

:-D

At £12 a click in London for some of their keywords, it was actually cheaper to create their own team to have organic growth over pay-per-click.

Yeah I will let it run until tonight and when I complete a report for work i'll post it here too. It's pretty much backed up what I had thought.

Nearly everyone knows what a Will is, however very few know about LPA's, Funeral Plans or Asset Trusts. As a parent, a Will is something we've been talking about for quite a while and our place have started doing £14 online Wills but I had no idea about the other things.

Currently sitting at 148 answers too which is more than I was expecting :)

thanks everyone

Done.

Felt like some DK options on the second page would have more accurately described my position.

Questions are really just a rush job to get a brief overview. I could have been a lot more indepth but it would have taken longer to plan and fill out. I really just need some quick stats that cover the basics so I can try and get them to invest in some market research :) throw some free wills out there etc.

OK, I know it's been a while and things have changed a lot. I've managed to get them to understand quality over quantity and the 2000 blogs deadline has passed and is on a back burner to get quality blogs instead.

I've used the feedback I had here to help me, and I've now been given a whole site to design and build for our welsh team, developing ideas for new sites and tweaking our current main site adding into that a huge adwords budget and told to crack on.

I asked for a gift i could offer people who helped out as well, figuring it'd be a discount but they've given me a ref code that gives free wills instead of the discounted wills.

So, if anyone is interested: http://www.activewills.co.uk/friends?ref=MC

The ref code at the end is purely to help track who it came through, I don't get anything for it. I believe we need to spend more time in online groups giving advice instead of the hard sell, this will help me do that :)

Any issues please let me know.

EDIT:
I've also just been told that the free will offer lasts for 30 days is available to anyone with the link so please share it if you think it'd be of benefit :)

Wondering if this offer would be better as a dedicated thread?

I am not a fan of the auto playing videos, but the site is mainly aimed at the older generations and they feel that videos advising what to do throughout the site will help them understand what to do.

as for the buttons not being in line with each other, i've tried them over many platforms and browsers and can't replicate it.

Fully understand what you are saying, I will definitely pass this over to the tech director/dev as it's a very good point.

I can understand you may not be able to answer this question but how are the wills stored?

This is the tech directors project so I am not sure of the whole process but you fill the site out, you print them off, sign them etc and send them to us.

We then use a specialist company to store them. I don't know the name of them though but I have asked so if I find out I'll post it.
