I have finally put together my new rig, but when i try to boot it it does not work. The post LCD thing on my maximus formula says det dram or something like that, but not only that, i have no graphics card output! im using a crt monitor with the adapter to allow it to connect to DVI ports, and i have tried both ports on my 8800gt but my monitor just displays no signal. When i turn off the no signal symbol flickers a bit and jumps to the top of the screen for a second, before going back to its usual location.

after searching google i found some posts talking about the det dram error being due to the motherboard not supplying enough power to the ram, and that people should use low power ram to set the bios right then switch back. the problem is i have no lower power ram to do this with, and buying more simply isnt an option since i spent every penny getting this new PC in the first place. even if i could somehow get lower power ram, i still wouldnt be able to do anything in the bios as i have no signal getting to my monitor to see what im doing.

Please help, ive spent all my money on this PC so i realy need to get it working.

You could try one stick of ram, and see if that gets you into the bios. Then you could adjust the ram volts.

Hello

Are you sure that the Ram is inserted into the correct slot on the motherboard as I had this problem when configuring my cousins PC. If this is not the case there is a possibility that the Ram could be faulty.

If you list your parts this might help as well but I would also try with either one stick or the other to start... and I know its basic but is the monitor connected to the pc? (Just to be sure)

OK, with just 1 mem module inserted it boots properly (as far as i can tell, i dont have an OS installed yet to check everything) and thankfully i can get into bios because with just 1 stick of ram the monitor now gets a signal, the problem now is that i can not find anywhere in the bios to edit ram voltage, i see an extreme tweaking section where i can adjust frequency and timings, but i dont see a voltage page.

ok i managed to unlock the voltage settings, turns out one of the other settings has to be switched from auto to manual first before the voltage settings even appear. ive set the ram to 2.1v, but after rebooting and checking my bios status page, it says the dram is running at 2.17v, which is a bit higher then what i set, but its still within the 2.1-2.2 range that the ram requires, so it should work fine now.

Time to try and install vista 64 and hopefully there will be no other problems.

Thankyou everyone that helped, i was really worried that i may have just lost a LOT of money on a PC that doesn't work.
