Today I discovered a nasty bit of spyware on my PC.

Basically, I began to register a domain name, but a keylogger, trogan, whatever saw the domain I was after and jumped in and registered it before me. It's known as domain tasting. I'm not going to say the domain in case people go to it, as if the domain receives enough traffic, the domain is kept and put up for sale. Usually at a high price. If the domain receives little to no traffic after 5 days it is dropped and is returned to the registrar. Many allow you to do this, sort of like a cooling off period.

This article sums up what's happened to me:

So, the little cretin needs to be removed.
I don't fancy formatting the PC unless I really have to. So I'm looking for software to bleach and sterilise my PC.

I have hijack this, which initial scans seem to show off nothing. However I've sent the log off to a programmer who knows his Windows well.

Also have Spybot. I run weekly scans and it only ever finds relatively harmless data miners and tracking cookies.

So, what else can I try?

You could also try downloading this scanner that contains it's definitions within itself:

Download it from the 2nd "HER" link, the actual file is called "mwav.exe":

Run the mwav scanner in the following way:

Put a checkmark in:
Memory, Startup folders, drive, Registry, System folders and Services.

And: All local drives and Scan all files .

Click Scan Clean Button.

The scan can take quite a while to run with many applications installed.

I have used this a few time and it is quite thorough, the actual program uses English for language. :)
