I need some games in my house, what are the basics

Righty o then.

I want to get away from watching TV/Pc gaming all the time. I use to play Warhammer and various other GW offerings.

However they can be a bit long winded and expensive. I would like some board games I can play with a group of friends but also some me and the Mrs can play on a rainy day

all I have at the moment is 4 different versions of monopoly (I don't know how)

What games would you suggest?
Also what games would you say are essential for a home?

This is what I am after, me and my brother have always like "nerdy" games but convincing friends who see gaming as a bit strange to play is hard enough in this day and age

Cards against humanity will definitely get ordered I was looking at it the other day, seems like it would be a good laugh when I have people round for a **** up
