I have a Windows machine with 2 x SATA hard drives (1 containing Windows XP and programs and the other containing my media library) and 1 x IDE hard drive. I'm trying to install a second operating system onto the IDE drive, and seem to have it set up correctly as far as BIOS and jumper settings (set as MASTER - only master drive on that IDE channel) are concerned. It's still throwing up errors when I try to boot, however, and I assume it's because this IDE drive already contained a Windows OS.
I don't know much about Master Boot Records, but I can only assume my computer doesn't like having 2 x drives, both containing Windows OSs, both set to 'master'?? Even though one is on the SATA channel and the other is on the IDE channel....?? I've managed to boot to a Linux 'system rescue cd', and remove the Windows XP partition from this IDE drive, but the MBR still appears to be on there and I can't seem to alter it at all....
Am I barking up the right tree? If so, what can I do to clear the MBR on that drive?
