Hi all,

Im happily running XP on my laptop and desk top without issue but im starting to think that i may need to get a new desktop soon.

The old thing is approaching 4 years old.

So ive been looking at what OS to put on it, i was nicely surprised to see that OCUKs builds have the option of comming with XP but should i move on to Vista or even get ready for 7?

Ive just noticed Direct X 11, and that still is only for Vista. Is there any need to upgrade to 10 or 11 for new games, im a bit out of the loop on this.

Basicaly, is DX9 now a dinosaur and when i get a new desktop get Vista/7 to utilise DX10/11

Thanks in advance
Zero.

Not really an awful lot of point getting Vista now. I would wait a bit for 7 - it's a far more refined version of Vista. Far better choice for a new rig than XP, which was a great OS but is showing its age now.

Ah only 2 weeks, will take me longer than that to save up :)

So were expecting 7 to be good then? Not another ME or Vista?

A lot of people have been using Windows 7 Release Candidate and Beta for a good while now (my self included) and yes its good, very good.

Its what Vista should have been all along and a worthy upgrade from XP.

Already have a copy of Home Premium on order, but might have to take advantage of the student offer to get a copy of Professional!
