Hey guys,

I’ve got an .avi that I need to make into a DVD (So it plays straight away when I put it into a player etc…). I’ve got a really old version of VSO ConvertXtoDvd but I haven’t used it in ages and now it doesn’t want to play ball :o

The source file is perfect, but it’s not converting it right? The output is very scratchy; frames all over the place etc.

Are there any good freebies out there that would be up to the job – or am I going to have to pay out :(

Cheers,

SW.

Thanks mate - the software was great! But I still have the same sort of problem...

Maybe the file is dodgy? It plays okay as .avi though :(

Anyone know of any good .avi convertors out there :p

You can download a trial version of WinAvi, if nothing else but to make sure the Avi isn't corrupted in any way. BTW, the trial version leaves a watermark but it's free.

The new version of ConvertXtoDVD comes highly tuned - 6-7x realtime encoding on my setup - so highly recommended :)

The oldish version I had of ConvertXtoDvd was causing me problems, but the latest version does sound okay?

In the end I downloaded the latest version of WinAvi and that converted the file great, but obviously with the water mark... I didn't realise it, but I've got an old licensed version of WinAvi (v6 I think?) so I tried that an it also worked fine ;)

Just shows how often I use this type of software :)

Thanks everyone!

SW.

Quality wise, WinAVI is the worst I've seen, Nero is good however it had troubles (early Nerovision version) with sync issues and didnt encode AC3 5.1 soundtracks.

ConvertXtoDVD encodes with decent quality, fast encoding and does AC3 5.1 sound.

ConvertX-DVD has gotten much better, and recently the newest version has full multi-core support which is great if you have one.

Takes no time at all with a half decent D/C CPU at 2.5ghz+. :)
