Hi guys,

I have an XP SP2 machine which is in a stand-a-lone network. This machine is absolutely not allowed any contact with the outside world or any other server whether domain joined or not.

I need to download every patch / critical fix / security update to this machine without applying SP3.

Can you help?

Why would you want to install all of the updates without installing SP3 which is technically one giant cumulative update?

If it's a isolated pc - why bother.
product updates maybe worth it but it's about as secure as it's possible to be.

but good luck with the 100+ separate file downloads.
Did some work for MoD bods many moons ago - and belt and braces is standard procedure

I used to do this kind of thing at a previous job... but it's because some of the office network links were as small as a 56k bt kilostream. I used to use a thing called autopatcher.

But I then found another program called CT Update which would allow me to download all the patches for a specific OS and package it into a single ISO. So I could simply burn a CD and take it out with me in the car. Again i've not used this for a while and i've found that there is an updated version called WSUS Offline Update. Hope it helps.

WSUS offline was the one I used when playing with Slip-steaming. Was the best out of all the tools that I found.

This was my thought. We have a few machines at work that run XP SP2 for compatibility with specialist software, and are again not connected to the world in any way for security reasons. So once SP2 is installed, I just leave it at that.

Use something like Autopatcher. You can download the files to a USB drive, so it doesn't need to go online. The reason I think you should keep it reasonably up to date is if some numpty brings their own USB/CD/DVD and put's it in the machine. A decent AV should stop things, but better safe than sorry etc.

If you can guarantee this will never happen then just installing all current updates should be enough.

Microsoft ordered a takedown on the old Autopatcher. Theres a new Microsoft approved version available now but it requires your XP machine to be already patched to SP3.

does that require genuine advantage ? cause that software just annoys me.

it runs the process wsus.exe or similar all the time and it always goes mad on cpu and memory usage, so i end up killing it and disabling auto update from the registry, kill the entire thing cause it just slows the pc down and starts trying to auto update even when you disable it in the control panel

so is there a place to get the xp updates without going through the MS website ?
