hi folks, this is my first post...i hope someone can help me out:)

I have just bought a new Abit IP35 Pro motherboard; I need to install my old IDE devices to it, those being 2x IDE hard drives and 2x IDE dvd burners. The mother board only has 1 IDE interface though…I am now stuck! :confused:

On my old system I had the 2 harddrives in IDE channel 1 as master and slave, and the 2 dvd burners on IDE2 as master as slave…worked fine but I am now stuck.

Any ides any body?:confused::confused::confused:

When I get more cash I will be adding SATA drives and will probably ditch the IDE hard drives but for now I just need to get up and running the old way

Hope someone can help

See if you can get some PCI IDE controller cards that should allow you to use your existing devices.

claimed btw ;)

Install one HD and a DVD burner on your new motherboard.
Get an external USB housing for one of the HDs.
Do you really need two DVD burners? If so get another external USB housing for it
Or get a USB-IDE interface cable and swap the HD and DVD burner as required. Click me!

Thanks for the speedy response guys; I was not expecting that lol.

I would really like to keep all the IDE devices really, if I was to get a pci controller card what would be the best way to set it all up?

On my motherboard the IDE is labelled as IDE1…so may be install both the hard drives on this as master and slave again, then install the dvd burners to the card? God knows

Btw, I have looked at overclockers but can’t see a card

Thanks again anyways

If you really do need all those drives then i would either get a PCI IDEc ard, or swap your mobo to something that has 2 ide ports such as the asus P5N-E SLI
