Hi all,

I have a Virgin 3.0 Hub and a decent connection but the WiFi doesn't go through my fat Victorian walls at all. I was using a TP Link thing in the hallway but it's stopped working now and I've spent four hours working through the (very complex for a complete novice like me) solutions online with no luck at all.

My router is in the dining room (standard house floorplan) and this is the only room I get a decent WiFi signal. I also have a smart TV in the neighbouring living room that now doesn't pick up the WiFi - even with the TP Link thing it was fairly sketchy.

I would really like simple solutions because, frankly, I'm tired of life. Are there any? Surely there must be some plug-and-play sort of signal extenders?

Please help :D

If you're tired and can't be bothered with it all then introduce a mesh network as big as you need. I've no personal experience with it, but I would think if I just wanted decent performance with an easy life then Google's wifi product is what I'd investigate.

Signal extenders and powerline are too hit and miss in my experience and the best performing solution of introducing access points on the end of Ethernet cables is only very easy if the cables are there already.

most new wi-fi kit these days will let you mesh the wi-fi points so that it will allow a device to seamless roam without dropping your connection.

i use asus wi-fi kit other manufacturers will be fine, just check the specs.

You don't want signal extenders or boosters or powerline, you want a mesh.

I went through all this to try and get a reliable signal to my ring doorbell, then went with a BT whole home wifi setup and it's been completely flawless. Just add as many discs as you need, saw that the mini 3 pack for £99 at the moment if you search for it.

Thank you all. I've spent even more time today trying to sort out this range extender and I have given up. I'm sure it's only a small problem but the freaking thing is so complicated for a thicko like me that I just can't waste any more time on it. The Mesh thing looks great but I can't afford it at the moment so I will try a £25 powerline first and see how I get on.
