HIS 6670 Low Profile 1gb GDDR5 :D

I got a buddy to get me one in the US and post it over, ended up costing me about £90... these are a mythical beast in the UK and is by far the best card you can get for any low profile setup. This plus my i5 (2300) are awesome for Dirt 3. Just wanted to gloat ;)

Anyone else picked one up?

You big boasty git, what were the vat/import charges like?
Shipping by private individual instead of company probably don't have to pay the import VAT/duty and Royal Mail/ParcelForce's ransom charge, as long as the item is declared as used and/or gift at under £36.

Is it right or legal to lie on declaration? Probably not...but lots of people who don't really mind paying the import VAT/duty despite hate the idea of paying crooks that hold their precious goods ransom, and not releasing them until they get money for import VAT, plus the £8/£13 ransom which they force upon people.

i think the VAT charges were waived if the item is less than £18.. but that was 2 years ago, maybe the rates have changed.

I used to buy stuff from overseas for my business, and it was shocking how RM/parcel force never bothered to collect customs VAT on import, even when the value of goods were clearly displayed on the invoice and way above the free range.

I had to pay all the unpaid customs VAT when I filed my taxes in year end, good news is I didn't pay any collection/processing fee to RM because they did not do their job

I don't bother with buying from the US these days because the exchange rate wans't all that great and after customs and shipping it comes up very close (plus the delay in receiving the goods is prohibitive)/

But pre lending crisis, when 1GBP = 2USD is was the golden era of buying stuff from the states.

Something that costs £100 here, used to cost $100 in the states, so the savings were mad.

A couple of years ago i couldnt pick up any in store (northern ireland) low profile cards! not 1 shop stocked low profile cards....

Oops, forgot I had posted this. Pics below.

The £90 included import charges, just declared it in advance:

Total Before Tax: $99.17
Import Fees Deposit $19.83
------
Total: $119.00

That only works out at £76, but gave my buddy a bit on top for sorting it.

HAAAAANG ON.

If you own the holy grail.

Then what do I have with my low profile 6750?

In an even smaller case

Mines "passively cooled" because there's no space to have a gpu cooler. Just the heatsink.

The PSU has a reversed fan sucking air in from the back and blowing it through the gpu heatsink.

Due to the way sensors work I can't power the PSU fan from the PSU.

The PSU will only speed up the fan if the PSU heats up. Which it won't since it's pulling in cold air over the PSU sensor.

Meanwhile the GPU gets hotter and has no control over fan speed.

So the fan inside the PSU is linked to the header on the GPU. GPU gets hot, it speeds up the PSU fan and everyone is happy.
