ZEISS Apo Sonnar T* 4/1700 -The World's Largest Telephoto Lens
Never before has the world of photography seen such a lens. The ZEISS Apo Sonnar T* 4/1700 was developed by Carl Zeiss for a customer with very high demands and a special interest in long distance wildlife photography. To achieve the highest possible image quality, the customer decided on the Hasselblad 203FE 6x6cm medium format camera and ZEISS lenses as the best combination for his special needs."]Never before has the world of photography seen such a lens. Staggering, the owner must have paid towards development to so I can only imagine how much it cost!

beg the question how far away was this guy photographing from. Surely that thng could focus on a flat plain about 10miles away?

Which begs the question why?

Not sure why DPR call it the longest, though - the Nikkor 1200-1700mm was out years ago, it's much lighter, although 2 stops slower at 1700mm... But being a 35mm lens it's surely longer than this 6*6 one?

1700mm unsurprisingly is the same length no matter what camera is on the back of it. The image circle for the 6x6 would have to be large hence the lens will be fatter making it appear shorter.

Yes, but it's like shooting a 50mm (or whatever) on a full frame and then on a crop camera. You're cropped closer in on the action with a crop camera.

it weighs well over 4 of me, i couldnt lift that, dont know many people who could lift 40 stone on there own, it must be a permanent fixture somewhere.

thats some stupid zoom, and i think a 500mm is a stalker lens :D

Or for perving nudie beaches while anchored 2 miles off shore...

My thoughts exactly :p

He might have a H1 Hummer and he might have it mounted on the Roof where the Machine gun normally sits :)
