I was at the Windows Phone 8 event tonight so I played with every new phone (and surface) and so if anyone has any questions just ask here.

My favourite was the Lumia 920 and I thought the ATIV S was pointless but ask away if you want.

CAN YOU CHANGE THE VOLUME OF MUSIC AND VIDEOS WITHOUT IT AFFECTING THE RINGTONE VOLUME ETC?

This is the only thing that bugs me massively about WP7.5.

Oooh also is there any way to go forward in the web browser instead of just back? Mild irritation with 7.5.

Edit - I know its not device specific but just on the off chance you noticed.

ATIV S

The ATIV S is a GS3 with WP8. It looks and feels like an S3 and compared to the other phones is cheap and tacky. The screen isn't as good as the other high end devices either.

That is not to say its a bad phone just Samsung has brought its hub and apps to it and the look and feel out of place on WP8. I'm sure performance wise it will be wonderful to use and being AMOLED the blacks looked great but its success depends on its price.

If it is free and priced as not premium then its great but if your having it sold alongside the HTC or Lumia then no one could pick it based on its build quality and feel.

Lumia 920

Fantastic display, smooth with great colours. Fantastic camera and Nokia apps enhance the experience.

RINGTONES!

I don't know the answer to that unfortunately as in that environment you couldn't hear anything even with the Lumia on that fancy loudspeaker it has you couldn't hear anything so I didn't check anything like that. Sorry.

How about the HTC 8X? Any comments on build quality/design? Only asking as apparently the 920 may not be coming to Vodafone...

The 920 is ONLY EE unfortunately.

The 8X is a good alternative, there are a few reviews up already for it so you should check those out but I saw it a month ago at the HTC event and it feels very nice in the hand and light.

The 8X has an awesome wide angle front facing camera which I think is a killer feature specially with Skype integration into WP8.

The issue I have is that whereas the Lumia 920 packs so much different technology into it the 8X feels like the same old HTC phone - that's not to say there is anything wrong with it simply that when you put it alongside the all round package of the 920 its hard to be excited about any other WP8 device.

The 8X is the closest however and it's design is very nice and the glass has the corners curving in ever so slightly so you can't feel a space between the display and casing (like Nokia does).

If the 920 isn't an option then go get a 8X but let me put another option out there.

Upgrade to an iPhone 5. Sell it unopened on eBay and buy an unlocked 920. If your an Android fan boy you could get yourself a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 10 for the same as an iPhone 5

The 920 is not EE only, not only can you get it sim free, digital-phones offer it through vodafone for free starting at £36/month, not to mention phones4u might be able to do it through Orange/T-mobile on 3g only contracts (I hope)
