I predict a Riot

making ordinary people pay for the mistakes of rich bankers is pretty much theft

Very true - which is why Greece needs to keep on with the austerity measures so the ordinary people in the rest of the EU don't get screwed as a result of the previous blatant lies and bad decisions made by the Greek government.

In reality, will it work - doesn't look too promising - given the current reaction and the fact that Greece is a democracy Its quite feasible that any austerity measures agreed to now might well not be adhered to in future - a regime change and subsequent default further down the line is quite possible.

It's not the Greek peoples fault previous Governments have failed to do their job... Much like it's not my fault Governments of previous years in this country have ****** this country over and escape unscathed either.

What must be even more galling for the Greeks is that the Government pushing through these measures is headed up by an unelected ex-banker.

How is it the bankers fault that Greece as a country borrowed far too much money from a whole variety of people due to the flaws of the politically driven Eurozone?

If I go down to my local council estate with wads of cash shouting "cheap loans for everyone". Whose fault is it when the people get into horrendous debt and can't pay the money back? Why shouldn't I pay for my irresponsible lending?

Can you imagine the mess it would be over here if Ron Paul got elected and he got rid of income tax like hes saying in his manifest. If the gov arn't bringing in tax money they have to borrow.

Are you that naive?

You only need to generate a lot of tax if you have big government and/or socialism. Ron Paul's plan is to reduce the government thus reducing the taxes, he wouldn't eliminate all taxes.

You do realise that Greece runs a primary budget deficit, right?

Screw the banks over (which will actually generally be screwing pensioners and future pensioners over) and you still don't solve the problems in Greece, they still need to borrow billions to cover their insanse lefty state spending practices.

Austerity from the bailout is nothing compared the austerity required to default....

Whatever solution they agree on, someones gonna lose out.

:( sadly it's the wrong one's that are being punished. The one's that never paid tax with the 3 homes and swimming pools carry on as normal while the civil servants are being torn apart.

They didnt choose their current government. They didnt have much choice with previous parties, they all had the same basic messages and beliefs which have lead us here.

Is it also not true that politicians often make all sorts of promises and then completely renege upon them once in power?

The current government has been put in place because of the actions of previous governments over the last 30 years or so.

If anything, the current protests highlight the real problem with democracy, the vast majority of the population are idiots.

Some people are stupid, but they think they are smart, they are much worse and more dangerous.

Democracy relies on an informed, well reasoned electorate. Giving everyone a vote by dint of their existence, and failing to ensure that the burdens created by society fall equally, ensure that what you have instead are selfish people voting for things they want that other people should pay for...
