Hi guys,

OK, I have just wiped Vista from an HP DV9500 Laptop and reinstalled Windows XP. Pretty much OK, except I'm missing a few essential core drivers. The one that's really killing me is finding an ethernet driver. I've been searching Google high and low. Of course if I knew of a code of make or something maybe I could do better. Is there a piece of software that would do a hardcore analysis of all these bits to assist my search? I can see I am missing:

Base System Device (SDcard reader?)
Coprocessor
Ethernet Controller
HP integrated Module
HP webcam
Network Controller
SM Bus controller
VGA Controller

I can pretty much work out how to get the VGA from NVidia :-D and I'm not bothered about the cam one. If anyone can give me a pointer on either where to find these drivers directly (tried the HP site and it's *****. It has a small sprinkling, none of them have worked!). Or how best to tackle this, PLEASE help.

Thanks!

Steve

Yep, it has a few rather non specific drivers. Tried installing the two most likely suspects and neither got rid of a single yellow triangle in my drivers list upon reboot :-(

You sir are a God! Honestly I can't thank you enough for spending time to help me out (I'm in turn trying to fix this laptop for someone else!). Armed with that info I'm sure I can get it up and running. Of course I will reply back here with my results. Thanks again man...

EDIT: I know from the sticker on the machine that it has an AMD Turionx2 64 CPU, does this mean that it's chipset will definitely be NVidia rather than Intel?!

Not necessarily, it could well be (and knowing HP is quite likely to be) an ATI chipset. Don't know whether VIA or SiS made mobile chipsets for the Turion, but they are possibilities as well.

Edit: Is the graphics a Geforce 7150M? I've never seen an integrated nVidia video chip alongside anything other than an nVidia chipset (strangely... ;)), so chances are it is an nVidia chipset.

Thankfully a good deal of it is now working. Wireless LAN now works (phew!) but I am still currently having trouble with the 5-in-1 card reader and co-processor drivers (not even sure what this does as everything seems to work just fine anyhow!). Thanks for everyone's help so far :-)
