As this thread has now been resurrected, I may as well add that the previous restriction requiring PAYG customers to be active O2 users for 12 months has now been removed, so you (in theory) could buy an O2 iPhone today, bung £15 top up on there, then request the unlock straight away.![]()
No problem. My experience was much less swift, but I think that was because I asked them to initiate the unlock on 20th Dec, and so it probably got caught up in the Christmas period. As of the other day it's been sorted, though. Now I have an official unlock, notifications finally work properly which is nice.Thank you sir for pointing that out.
Form completed on Friday... unlock confirmation received this morning. Now officially unlocked.

Purchase iPhone on O2 PAYG. Make sure you have £15 top up on an O2 sim/have an O2 contract (doesn't have to be the one you got with the phone). Go to http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/unlockmyiphone.html and complete the form, giving the phone number of the O2 sim with £15 on (or the number on a contract). You'll need to know the IMEI of the iPhone, which probably requires turning it on (don't believe it's stated in the box, though I may be wrong as I never checked). Wait for a few days (up to 10). You'll then get a text saying the phone is unlocked. Plug it into iTunes, and it will update, saying you are unlocked. Can you explain the process please?
I need to buy an iPhone for work but need it working on any network, yet it also needs to be a new device.
