I have a cheap 92" screen that cost me about £70. Any way I notice on bright scenes I see a lot of sparkles on screen and think I am seeing more pixerlation on screen as well.

Could anyone advise of a new screen type to go for to help stop me seeing this? I Have a W1200 1080p projector which I currently have a hoya lens over it as I find it to bright.

Thanks! :)

Not sure if serious...

Have you looked up close at the screen itself? Does it look like it could cause the sparkles? Could it not be the lens causing it, have you given it a good clean?

Quite serious! Difficult to gauge exactly what OP means by sparkles, and I've fallen foul of a cruddy long HDMI cable giving this sort of interference. Could also be caused by a reflective screen, but even a cheap purpose bought screen shouldn't be that bad.

Maybe I am not describing it the best I could. Just that on bright scenes I notice a type of reflective sparkle on the screen in certain areas.

Would buying a matte grey help with this problem as its a excuse to go slightly larger :)

Taken from projectorpoint website

"Screen Gain - what is that?

Gain is the measurement of the reflectivity of your screen’s surface. We recommend matte white screens across the board. They produce the best picture quality and are the most versatile. The matte white surface reflects the light back over a wide viewing angle and the colours remain accurate and bright.

To make things simple we no longer stock any grey or glass beaded screens. You may have read that these types of screens are said to increase contrast (the black colours in a projected image) in your picture but projectors today are so much more advanced and generally have good contrast ratios anyway that they don’t need a grey screen to improve them. Also when you project white onto grey screens it appears grey and washed out. The glass beaded screens also gave a sparkling effect at times on the grain of the screen which was quite distracting."

Maybe my screen is glass beaded ! :)

Grey or not.... hmmm. Depends a lot I guess on whether you plan to upgrade the projector in the future. Budget projectors have heaps of brightness to spare, so grey still makes sense to improve blacks. Step-up projectors (£1.5k ~ £3k) have far better blacks but a lot less brightness. Grey wouldn't be such a good choice then. Changing a projector and a screen becomes an expensive business.

Have you thought about an ND filter to stop down the projector? That'll help with the blacks.

Using a ND filter at the minute which is great!! but my screen is total pants so need to get a new one!!

Leaves me the question to go Matt white with the ND filter or maybe wont need it or just go grey!...... Here with grey though it washes the colours out and not as sharp as image as the Matt white.

Its all very confusing in a market with screens as little as £50 and up to £1000+

I have been looking at screens called grandview cyber which seem middle ground money and seem to get good reviews. think the gain is 1.1 not sure if thats suited for me or not! lol ?

Thanks anyone !
