Typically they are not as close to the place you sleep as you might think. They go away and hide in the day then your body heat attracts them to you as you sleep.
Aah, I'd forgotten about this thread. Finally tracked down the problem after repeat flea treatments didn't work - turns out I'm allergic to Daz washing powder. Not sure why the reaction looked and felt so much like bites, but the moment I changed my washing powder the problem went away. That was a good 6 months of feeling dirty and scummy for no real reason.
