I knocked my old man a rig together a few moths ago and recently he has had random BSOD and lack of signal to the monitor

I talked him through a few things over the phone (he lives quite away away) and seemed to have sorted things out, until tonight ...........

I got thesepictures emailed :

First thoughts are is GPU has gone

Anyone else got any thoughts ?

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers :)

see if the motherboard has a built in graphics adapter, plug the monitor into the motherboard graphics slot, and see if it works

Unfortunately it doesn't (or he cant see it :P) - That was one of the first things I thought of :(, but thanks :)

I've had this happen before with a graphics card. It turned out to be failing or failed RAM.

Hmmm, good call, looks like its remove a few sticks and see what happens - cheers :)

Graphics RAM, you won't have much luck taking that out. :p

System RAM's a good idea too though.

lol, too many beers :)

Thankfully (and completely randomly) my sister who lives near him, but nowhere near me, visited today so i have sent a spare GPU back with her to try and talk him through swapping it out tomorrow ...........

If that doesn't work ill try the long sticks of RAM as well :P

Thanks all

It was the GPU - VRAM me suspects

"New" card in and, after he tool the Dremmel to the HDD cage (with all the components still installed :O) so it would fit, all seems fine - has been running OK since he installed the new one earlier today :)
