I think COD:WaW is doing weird things to my computer

A couple of days ago i posted a thread in the Windows forum about my fonts being all messed up. On the some websites the font simply looks different, while on others the fonts are all in italics.

At roughly the same time i posted a thread on another forum about an apllication (holdem manager, an online poker tool) refusing to load (nowt happening when i click the shortcut). At the time i didnt think the two problems were related.

I did a sytem restore to the previous day which cured both problems.

Anyway, i just played COD:WaW and after shutting it down i tried to load holdem manager and once again its not loading. And weirdly, pressing the start button and selecting 'shutdown' simply resulted in the start bar disappearing. I had shutdown using the power button on my pc tower.

After rebooting holdem manager still wont load and my fonts gone all weird again.

Has anyone got ANY idea as to wtf is going on?

Cheers.

[edit] i'm on vista home basic 64bit.

Buy it for the xbox and use the pc game as a coaster. WaW is one of the most shoddy, buggy games that has passed for a "final product" in a long time. I have endless problems with it.

I would back up your profiles/save data, and unistall the game. And leave it unistalled while you use windows for a few days. Note down any problems.

It could be just a bug or something with windows vista

I'll try that. I've had vista about 2 weeks now and i really dont like it. I wish i;d bought XP 64bit now.

Where are the profiles/save games kept? Cant seem to find them.

Thanks

its funny you say that, i recently had a massive discussion in the windows forum advising someone not to get vista, and to get XP SP3 instead. I hope it wasnt you, because everyone else disagreed with me and said get vista, they said that XP is outdated. My reasons off the top off my head for XP over Vista:

> Easier to use
> Better compatibility
> More stable
> Faster
> Not outdated, microsoft extended support for it
> Much more complete OS
> Better for gaming (DX10 is not enough a reason to get vista)

I wish people would stop saying get vista instead of XP

Random font loss is usually caused by uninstalling the pirate version of Left 4 Dead I believe.....but my apologies if you've never touched this :)

Find a machine that works properly, and copy the font folder over to yours. Presumably you're missing some key fonts, e.g. Arial, Verdana, that kind of thing.

My COD:WaW saves are in "C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW" - you can right click on the game in the Vista Game Manager to access them.

I know this is very subjective, but you're talking nonsense here. Vista is easier to use, runs nearly as many programs as XP does, is stabler due to several reasons (the new driver model for example), runs as fast as XP since SP1 and also includes many more features than your standard XP installation does - for example Media Center. I don't see how XP is any better for gaming.

The only real disadvantage of Vista is that it's a system hog. But if you have a modern, powerful machine, there's no reason to run XP these days unless you're dead set on it.

umm, let me rephrase my post, i should have added i have both XP SP3 32bit and Vista Ultimate 64bit, i choose the XP over the vista, but thats because i program in Delphi 7, and therefore more compatible, not to mention i like to play older games, which are more compatible on XP.

So, if you are going to buy a new OS i would reccomend XP, If you have the money get vista, but depending on your needs there is not a massive gain in my eyes to pay the extra £££

I have no such folder. I even ran a search and cant diddly :( I also have no idea what Vista game manager is. Is it included in Vista home basic?

Cheers

Vista game manager is not included in the basic edition.

Goose, you will have to find where the game is loaded and look in the directories within there. Failing that, they will be stored in the documents folder as above.

I can find out later but I'm sure reflux is right... Make sure you have "Show hidden folders" ticked in folder options. Application data is hidden I believe.

Have you checked for spyware?

Thanks dude, i found it now. Used to always have show hidden files on but forgot to turn it on since isntalled vista.

I'm certain its not spyware, i've had spypot installed since day one.
