I think I failed in building my PC

The "GoodRAM" RAM is definitely ok because I was running on it before for a few years. I ran the memory test and there were no problems detected. I hope I still keep it inside...I am not sure If they are compatible...

I'd still remove it.

I completely disabled virtual memory in my system to keep my disks away from being busy with it. I want to focus on using RAM only.

Definitely don't do that. If you're short on hard drive space then by all means shrink the size of the pagefile, but don't disable it entirely. You'll run into trouble with software if you do.

Dreadenthax,
re ThaReaperguy's specific post, follow this chap's suggestions.

No cost to you except a small amount of time.

You aren't going to get better advise and it's free!!!!

Re-read all the suggestions, follow JRS's and ThaReaperGuy's instructions and your system should be fine.

Exactly this, get a pagefile asap and ditch the unknown RAM.

Is there anything in your windows event log?

Turn it back on, but only give it 1gb (1024mb). Turning off the page file is a surefire way to crash many many applications in Windows.

And ditch that no-name memory for now; If you find out the cause of your issues is down to something other than that memory, you can always pop it back in.

At least try the suggestions people are giving you before you dismiss them, or else what was the point of asking for advice in the first place?

Also, that 3gb of RAM at idle, is that the case right after a cold boot, before opening anything up? It seems quite high to me if that's the case.

For comparison I'm sat at around 2.45gb with several chrome tabs open, a couple of other programs and I'm faffing around in audacity too.

The i7 you have is a great chip, your friend is right.

Alright I made 1 GB of virtual memory and took out the non-matching ram. So far it works alright. I will get back to the thread If anything bad happens again. Thanks a lot for the help, hopefully it will solve the problem!

As above, I thought not having a page file would be dandy, it wasn't. Programs seem to obsess about the presence of it.

And bang! Nothing solved. My system rating dropped from losing 4 GB of ram. This is the only thing that changed. My system froze again yesterday. I sadly have no logs of that problem because whenever it freezes, it just freezes the screen with that sound loop until I reset my PC..

Right.

First off - RAM timings. Do you have the XMP setting enabled?

Second - I'd be tempted to reinstall Windows at this stage, there's been enough buggering about and crashing to have corrupted your current install.

Memory multiplier = 16.00
Memory frequency = 1600 MHz

I'm not sure if it's the XMP, but the memory enhancement settings are set to normal.

And I am not really tempted to reinstall the whole thing again.... It took me a few hours just to reinstall all the programs and load the backups.

Okay, that's probably fine then.

Windows takes all of half an hour to reload. You could have a usable system back up and running inside a couple of hours, surely?

So corrupt system files is the only problem that can exist right now ? I don't want to reinstall the system If there's anything else that might be causing the problem.

But if it's really just the system, then I may have no other choice.

one thing that will check the file system in windows is this command

/sfc scannow

open up command prompt as a admin and give this a try. if there is any OS files with a issues it will tell you there is corrupt OS files, if it can then it will try and repair them if not it will say it cant.

I had a laptop on 8.1 I ran this on over the weekend and files where corrupt and it was having quite a few issues so done a OS refresh

Okay, if you wanna rule every single other thing out....

Check all your hard drives for errors. Run Memtest for a bloody long time. Try a spare graphics card. Try a spare power supply. Then try reinstalling Windows if none of that turns up a problem.

Alternatively, realise that reinstalling Windows is actually about the easiest first step to take in terms of time it'll swallow out of your day and get on with it ;):)
