I currently have an akasa eclipse 62 case with 5 sata disks inside. 4 of which are in the 3.5" bays (1 space in the middle for a bit of airflow from the intake fan) and one of which is in a 5.25" bay. I also have 2 sata disks in external usb caddies.

Any way, i've decided i'd like to sort out my storage solution. I basically am the kind of person who 'hoards'...ie i HATE deleting stuff. Even if the chances of me ever using it again are slim. That's just the way i am.

The thing is, my temps are fairly high, and there's also the problem of noise/vibration which does occur sometimes and can be rather annoying.

So i was thinking about investing in some sort of caddie to hold all my drives. However, i'm not really sure what the best sort is. I would literally like to keep maybe 1 or 2 drives in the case and put the rest in the caddie. I think NAS would be too slow (?) although i don't really know much about it. Also, my router is in a different room so it's not ideal i think?

Is there a good quality external esata caddie which could hold several sata drives? Any other options? A bigger case perhaps? Thanks.

thanks for the responses guys.

Yeah it's mainly media files, though in all honesty i don't have a single megabyte of pR0n amongst it! There are 2 500 gig drives in there, a 320, a 200 and a 250 i think. I agree, it would be ideal to dump the 250 and 200 for 2x750's...

waso - what's a v2000? A case?

As for NAS - am i right in thinking i would have to run a network cable from my router into the NAS caddie? And then what?

provided you have a reasonable network going on you could always shift them to a server box of some form, low level low power storage farm with decent raid card run it as network storage. My uni house has a 3Tb storage box sitting in one room acting as a myth TV/ net store for the house. Keep a good size drive for what then becomes your gaming PC or whatever and have the other sitting on a 1G network and voila quietish storage that isn't really annoying.

an interesting idea, but not really feasible at the moment for me. Don't think the mrs would apprecaite another computer in the place, however small or discrete :)

1 TB drives? or burn stuff to DVD, get a nice sliding dvd library that u can number. or HD/BLU

caddie = on ocuk i saw a case with active cooling, mabye stack them... or the icybox

1TB drives are too expensive at the moment i feel. 750giggers are just about becoming worth it, before that it was always 500gig being the best value.

DVD burning - naaah. Not enough space on a dvd, and it's a hassle all round.

I think i'd like an external caddie which could take at least 4 drives and just sit next to / under my pc.
