I THINK I MADE A MISTAKE D:

I just purchased an Intel i5 2500k CPU, the Gigabyte Z77M-D3H motherboard and an ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP.

Do you think i made a mistake? Should i have bought the 3570k and made the most of the PCI-e 3.0 support or does it not make a huge difference?

I originally planned on overclocking the CPU to bout 4.7ghz(ish) and so i went with the Sandybridge because i heard the Ivybridge starts running really hot at that sort speed? Will the extra few ghz be more beneficial to FPS than the PCI-e 3.0 support?

I will be air cooling using a Hyper 212 Plus :)

Thanks dudes!

Sounds about right, current cards are not fully utilizing the new bandwidth made by pci-e 3.0 so the difference is negligible.

With that cooler though I would probably stick with 4.2Ghz ish, you could always buy a better cooler though.

Other than that looks like the perfect build. :)

Yeah, i had a quick look and it didn't seem to make much difference at all. I just wondered whether the extra few ghz out the CPU would be more beneficial?

No I dont think you have made a mistake. You wont notice the small difference of PCIE 3.0 with only one card and youve saved a good bit of money on the processor. If you can overclock to 4.5GHz + you will find it is plenty fast enough.

Cool, thanks :)

Yeah, this is my first build so i will only be pushing it slightly to start with. What CPU cooler would you recommend to push it that high? Preferably air :)

OCUK has the 2500k higher than the 3570k

I'd get the 3570k, they're identically priced almost.

No problems. :)

The best air cooler which performs and is near silent is this; *psssst you want this*

That would get you to 4.8Ghz-5Ghz if you're processor allows it.

But if you don't feel like spending so much on a cooler and don't mind missing a few mhz I would swap the one you're thinking of getting with this;
