Hi

I recently purchased an NZXT sentry 2 fan controller and 5 fans for my CM690II, all Bitfenix spectres (2x120mm black, 2x140mm black and 1 x 140mm blue led)

I had the the blue 140 mm positioned at the front, I hooked all the fans up to the sentry 2 and all were working fine but I hadnt connected the small 2 pin led fan that comes with the 140 mm blue, this is mainly because I hadnt really got a clue where it was supposed to go. So I connected it to one of the sys_fan headers on the motherboard. Fired up the machine and immediately smoke started billowing from the 140mm led fan, or rather more accurately the 2 pin cable. It's rather quite singed now.

To put this is question form. Where was I supposed to put it(the 2 pin led cable)? and secondly, though I quickly sitched off the machine, may I have caused damage to anything other than the fan? Not bothered if the fans knackered, thats my fault enitirely. I screwed up big time.

I believe the 2 pin connector is designed to be fitted to the BitFenix LED Controller not a fan header.

I assume that the LED's on the fan should light up from the 3 pin fan connector. If they didn't perhaps the fan was faulty.

Fire up the PC and you'll find out if you've caused any damage but I think it unlikely.

I thought it strange that it would require seperate power as the original cm 120mm led fan powers of the 3 pin alone. The only other cable is the led on/off button on the front panel.

I will say I only connected one 4pin molex to power the fan controller(to power it). The rest I left and I connected all 5 fans(maximum) via the 3 pin sockets. I only mention it as I know very little when it comes to such things and wonder whther it may have been a factor.

The NZXT Sentry 2 fan controller is 10W per channel so around 0.8 Amps.

The 140mm LED fan is 0.19A ± 10%, the 120mm & 140mm non-LED fans are 0.10A ± 10%.

There shouldn't be any problem on the power front.

It would seem that led fans are a no no with the fan contoller. Just tried the original cm 120mm bue led and that runs but the led fails. Looking at the bigger picture the system seems fine. Was bricking it for a moment.
