Today while cleaning my room I had my z-5500 playing tunes as it normally does. When it crackled buzzed and now emits a loud hum/buzz over the music.

Any sudgestions how to fix?

I have rang logitech they did a reset ive taken all inputs out of it and it still sounds very buggered. Logitech have offered me 50% off on there site where im toying at buying a new one.

Matt

R.I.P the best speakers ive ever owned.

It will only do it on the 6ch input mode. I have unplugged the 3 cables from the back of the control box and taken all the speakers out. so its only the sub and the control box and power. It still hums away.

If i put headphones in the sub will slowly stop making the noise and the sound comes out of the headphones normally. It wont make the noise on coaxial or digital but i dont use these.

How long have you had them? mine have been going strong for about 3-4 years now but I dread the the day when something like this happens so I feel for you!

With audio equipment humming can often be caused by a grounding problem, then again the amp could have just given up.

I wonder if it is coming from the control box, sub itself or amplifier. Can the buzzing/humming be heard from the sattelites as well or just the sub?

Seems quite a few Z5500's break down somewhere. Too much stuff for too little money maybe. Can't beat a decent amplifier, whether it be AV or stereo. :)

Yeh well the new set arrived yesterday and im following the advice of a mate to keep it on low voulme and half base for a couple of weeks to let it wear in etc.

I have a pair of KLH speakers on my wall should buy a amplifier for them really as there just gathering dust.

long shot, but you know the audio cable going into your speakers - leave that plugged in and remove the other end from the pc, touch that end to bare metal on your central heating as if you are trying to earth the speaker.

.... sounds odd, but this works for me when my aegos (very) occasionally hums. Before anyone says this is silly, I've had repeatable success doing this and can only think there is some static that needs to be earthed somewhere.

Electricity, it's voodoo.
