Hey people,
I like new stuff so I'm thinking about upgrading my PC a little bit, this is what I currently have:

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor
Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 AERO 8G OC 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit
Acer 4k2k B276HK 27" 3840x2160 IPS Professional Widescreen LED MonitorCorsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Full Tower Case Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Ultra Gaming Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Corsair Hydro H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

I see I'm a couple of generations behind on CPU and was thinking that but I don't want to end up replacing everything. What would you think about changing on this??

Thanks

I'd overclock the CPU (if you haven't already), get another 8gb of RAM and maybe upgrade the GPU if it's a gaming machine, which I assume it is.

What budget do you have?

Well budget is kind of fluid although would become pointless if it got too big as it'd make more sense just to sell this all and start again. So yeah, new GPU and RAM is within budget. I was thinking of RAM and then maybe a new motherboard + CPU to get into the newer gen intel series.

Ok, well I wouldn't bother with a new motherboard, I really wouldn't. You could drop a 6700K in there, grab the most powerful GPU you could afford, another 8gb of RAM and, depending on your choice of GPU, another PSU. Spending on a completely new generation of CPUs is pointless in your position really

I thought that, the i7 6700k and then a 1080ti or maybe 2080 and another 8gb ram.

Just out of curiosity though, why pointless in my position?

8th gen wont offer you much of a performance increase over 6th gen, even with the added cores of 8th gen.
There is only going to be a marginal difference between the 6700k and the 8700k.

Start off with a new GPU as i bet the 1070 is struggling on that 4k screen. You may need a new PSU if you go 1080ti or 2080.
Then get another 8GB Ram
then if you need to a 6700k.

Sounds like a good approach. Sold!

I wouldn't even consider Intels 8th gen and my setup is even older than yours. The performance gain for the price paid is simply not worth it. Like the others have said, the biggest performance gain for you gaming at 4k would be a much better gpu such as a GTX1080ti. You will need a better psu though and we normally recommend a minimum of a quality 650w psu for 1080ti's.
