Alright, here'sthe deal...

A couple of days ago I posted about making my own gaming rig... A lot of you helpful folk helped me get a spec together and the components arrived this morning.

I've been putting it together all morning as I have some experience with putting computers together and I didn'twant to fork out extra to have someone ese ut it together for me. I've been folloowing the MOBO instruuction manual and as far as I can see, everything seems to connected properly...

However, I've just hooked it up and the damn power supply popped and the system turned off... I think I've well and truly ballsed it, but I'd like to know if all the components inside the system are now completely bricked, or will I just need a new PSu and a correct configuration.

I'm really angry at myself for thinking I could do this and now failing massively... I hope the MOBO as Processor are still salvagable, as I spent a lot of money on this kit...

What do you think could be the problem? I can post pictures later of the inside setup if need be... Does a power supply pop = a totally useless system, or can it be salvaged?

If you could help me, I'd really appreciate it. I'm sat here banging my head against the wall for being such an idiot...

Thanks for any help you can provide...

maybe after 30 mins the psu might fire up again or then again it might be blown, i think u might be lucky as in mobo and cpu is fine but psu if still not working in a couple of hours is fudged :<
did u force any of the connections in or that? i

If it is the PSU that's gone, don't go blaming yourself! It's most likely nothing you've done.

Do you have any other PSU laying around you can try in there with the minimum components installed?

Well, it's emitting asmell, which leads me to believe it may be blown...

Could it be a possibility that it's sharing a extension plug socket with siz other electrical applicances? I think it's more likely that I've done something wrong...

I didn't foce anything into anywhere it wouldn't fit. I just connected everything where I believed it went after consulting the instruction manual...

It might be the fuse in the plug, and PSU's can smell odd, as long as it isn't a burning plastic smell hopefully it'll be fine.

If not, the chances of a decent PSU taking the components is minimal these days, they are designed to protect what they are plugged into afaik.

I have a power supply from my old computer that I'm using now. I guess I could try that.

By minimum configuration, what do you mean? RAM, PSU, CPU and MOBO?

Its very odd for a new PSU to blow instantly though? (although not completely unheard of) you sure you connected everything correclty? Used copper stand offs to install the mobo? does the back of the PSU smell burnt out?

You do know you shouldn't be water cooling your power supply?!?

honestly bummer pal,

i blew my first P200 by plugging a 12v in cable into a 12v out hole!

its pretty hard to hook things up wrong these days, PSU prolly just died instantly try another. You'll be fine to RMA any dead bits anyway not like anyone can prove it was your fault tbh

Am I able to link pictues from photbucket? I've taken some pictures of the setup... I hope you guys can tell what's wrong from it, as they're not the greatest pictures...

Sorry for the size...

There was a P3 connector on the PSu, but I assumed since there was no where to put it that it was only for specific motherboards
