I think I've ballsed it...

Great news!

I tried the old 450w PSU and it worked. The PC started up with the one POST beep to say everything is fine, and after I'd set my DVD drive as the boot device, it asked me to insert bootable media...

I even got the Asus Motherboard logo on bootup.

I think I've been very, very lucky. I just need a new PSU and I think I'll be okay.

Thanks to everyone who responded, though. I wouldn't be any closer to figuing out what went wrong without you.

Thanks again.

Great news fella enjoy your new rig:D

Great news! A £60 mistake is better than a £600 one :D

Reminds me of a time when I used to work for an audio based company.

5 broadcasting PC's ready to be packed for a Greek radio station. I realised I'd forgotten to make a note of some licences for some software.

Just as the MD is walking past, I turned on the rack. 5 PSU's blew instantly as they were all set for 110v. The courier was due to show in 30mins and rack mount PC's ain't the easiest to get PSU's out of!
