I started to notice my system lagging, especially when booting up or the first time I open Internet Explorer/Forefox so dedcided to find out why.
I have run a full scan with AVG and ewido, as well as spybot search and destroy.
I searched google for hijack this to see if anything obvious showed up there but as soon as the resaults came in my browser closed. This wasn't a one of and happens every time. I was able to get copy of the RAR from a friend but whenever I tried to extract it winRAR would just close. I renamed the archive and this allowed me to open and extract it but now I can't run the hijack this exe. I've also tried starting up in safe mode and running hijack this but it still won't run.

I'm beat. Any ideas?

EDITED to make more sense.

Download a copy of HiJackThis.

First make a folder on your computer in my documents called Hijackthis and then Unzip it to that folder.
Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the Scan button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become Save Log click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on Edit > Select All then click on Edit > Copy then paste the log at one of the sites listed here, or the one in my signature.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

Sorry about the first post not making much sense. It was late and I'd had a few beers. Anyway I followed the link and as soon as I started downloading my my browser closed with no explination. I tried again from a different site with the same resault. I Already have a copy of the hijack this exe. I tried to check the version (right clck ==> properties) but as soon as the window apeared it closed again and all my desktop icons disapeared for a couple of seconds.

I don't like this :(

EDIT: I ranamed the exe and was able to open the properties window. Version is 1.99.0.1.

I restarted, hit F8 and chose safe mode. I logged on as admin and tried to run hijack this, cunningly renamed but the same thing happened.
Is there anywhere I can find a list of drivers, services and applications that start when I boot into safe mode?
