Working on my build here I powered up fot the first time everything good , asked for a boot disc etc .

I couldn't power off by holding the power switch down so had to unplug it . Went to plug the power jack back in back in and it sparkered from the jack plug to the socket

So now I've got a green light on the psu but nothing from the mobo .

Anything I can try ..... or is it dead and what stupid thing have I done to kill it ?

Mobo - ZOTAC IONITX-P-E
PSU - PicoPSU-120WI-25V plus universal laptop brick

Every time you plug into the wall there is an arc of electricity. No way around it. You may have already had a foulty board/psu as holding the power button in should have done something to restart the pc. Try clearing the cmos and leave the PSU turned off and unplugged for a while to allow it to discharge fully. Plug it all up again and give it another whirl.

Well that seems to have worked  Also reconnected the power switch , I may have had the header in the wrong way round ( the stupid mistake ?? ) though strange that it powered up first time . Powers off on the switch as well .

Thanks Hydrogoo ;)

It detectects the drives and ram :)

I get a message saying -

CMOS checksum Bad .

F1 to run setup
F2 to load defaults

F2 I assume ?

Yep, load up the defaults then change your settings and test them one by one to make sure you don't run into another problem with locking up. If it does lock up again then at least you know which settings in bios to leave at default.

Glad it worked for you. Nothing worse when building a new pooter to have dead components. Except maybe your cat posting a half chewed pigeon with maggots through the window whilst working on your pc (Yes that really happened to me, was disgusting!)
