I think my motherboard just died. What should I get to replace it?

My PC wouldn’t power up yesterday. Initially, I thought it was the PSU, but then I tried the paper clip trick, and the PSU seems to spin up and provide power to everything except the motherboard, making me think my motherboard has indeed died.

My current motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X99-Gaming 5P, the CPU is an Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core, and the RAM I’m running is a 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit.

What are the most affordable Intel / AMD options at the moment, of equivalent power and capability? And can I use my existing RAM?

If it helps, I mostly use my PC for gaming, editing 6K RAW video, audio production, and graphic design.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The paper clip test isn't a guarantee of
Full psu functionality
Basically it rules out your psu being dead
And not much more
Try the simple things take out the bios battery for at least 10 minutes
My board looked dead as a dodo
After hours troubleshooting was about to
Pack it up for rma and tried that as a
Last desperate resort
It sprang back to life and has worked ever since

Well, **** me. That actually worked!

Thanks so much, dude! :D

But... why did this work? Why did it happen in the first place?

Could be for example "BIOS" battery starting to run empty causing some error state which needed clearing.
Would change that battery just in case.

Anyway if symptoms become more serious already Ryzen 3600 is better CPU with better architecture and higher clocks.

Then 3700X gives (next-gen console level) 8 cores/16 threads.

And MSI B450 Tomahawk would be good bang per buck board

With working case cooling it would take decently also higher core count CPUs...
AMD's desktop platform goes all the way to 16 core/32 thread monster.

You're very welcome mate
No idea why it happened in the first place
Mine was brand new board and had been working so not an old
Bios battery
And not sure why taking it out for only a minute or two doesn't work
As I always press the on/off a few times to discharge capacitors
Main thing is it did work :):):):)
