Was running Prime on Saturday testing for stability and after about 30mins the pc just shutdown and wouldn't turn back on. I cleared the cmos and still nothing. I also jumped started the PSU incase that was playing up and it powered the fans on ok. When I leave the pc unplugged for a few mins and turn it back on the LED's on the fans light up for a split second and then nothing.

Any ideas what it could be? I think it could be the PSU as my pc has been crashing lately and the only way to turn it off was by flicking the switch on the PSU.

could be any number of reasons, there's a fair bit in a machine that once dying will restrict the rest from activating, if you think it's the psu then thats actually an easy part to test.

start where you think the issue lies and try testing individual bits gradually 1 thing at a time using the process of illimination

Yeah, this was going to be my next step, just didn't get the time to do it. Will try tonight and see how I get on.

sometimes can also be dust in the pc. last time i had this I just used a compressed air can to clear out dust and problem disappeared. found there was a lot of dust near heatsink and fan.

I take it you overclocked your machine and then ran prime to test stability? If so, post stock specs and overclocked, you may have killed your CPU / RAM by overclocking it too much! Not what you wanted to read I know but is a possibilty :(

Yes I was overclocking, but wasn't pushing it. Spec is:

i5 760 - 20x200 @ 1.3v (1.328 in Windows)
GA-H55M-UD2H
2x4GB XMS3 - 1600mhz @ 1.65v
ATI 5850
OCZ 600w

So I cant see I would have fried anything. I'm using a Akasa Venom cooler in push/pull setup.

PSU sounds most likely, can you test with another? As before work through methodically:
1. unplug everything except Mobo, Cpu, Cpu heatsink (obviously), ram and GFX...
2. Try booting up with another PSU.
3. Memory shouldn't affect the power on, but try swapping out individual sticks.

4. Still nothing - time to look on the mobo for any failure LED's if there are any (look in instruction manual).
5. Swap CPU out and either test in another board or use another CPU on your current board.

I will try all this tonight when I get home. I still think it's the PSU as normally if ram, video, cpu etc has failed the warning LED on the board will be lit up and there are no LED's lit, which leads me to believe the board is getting no power.
