I think my ram is playing up limiting my overclock

I went to 3.4ghz on p5kc qith q6600 g0.

It crashes when loading vista.

I bump the ram volts and it gets more stabler. But im hitting my 2.2 limit of volts.

I think it would oc better if i can use a divider to put the ram slower than cpu. How can i do this to prevent going over my 2.2max limit of kingston 2x2gb pc8500 ddr2 ram.

I have 333 strap with 377 fsb with 1.5vcore 2.2v ddr 1.5nbvolts rams running 1:1 so be at 754. I want to get the ram to about under 700 ideally. Tho technically it should work cos its underclocked ram really cos of the 1:1 ratio.

Hey SkeeterPSA,

I think your problem may lay elsewhere

Your ram should only need 2.2vDimm *if* its running at DDR2-1066 speeds (533MHz) at the speed your running it may work at only 1.8vDimm. Your volts all look high when really the only component your pusing is the processor!.

I find it works out easier to test RAM if you reset your BIOS back to full defaults, reboot and then use just the [DDR2-Frequency] option in BIOS to manipulate the memory speed, then slowly but surely take the Northbridge Volts and Memory volts off [Auto] and start reducing them as low as you can.

Armed with this information you can then start getting the rest of the system overclocked again knowing for sure how much voltage the memory needs at your target speed you can concentrate on tweaking other options!

Hey Admiral Huddy!

I'm just reading through your webpages, I like the approach you take to overclocking, slowly and surely, works for me too! :)

Um yeah I do fold for CPC and my user name is the same all over, did I win something? or did they print my name in teeny weeny writing somewhere heh! :p

Admiral Huddy. Can you tell me what full set of bios settings you used in the jumperfree section please for 3ghz, 3.2ghz So i can compare with mine.

Also you dont seem to have as big vdroop as i do. If i have 1.4 in bios and 1.38 ish in cpuz on idle it goes to 1.28 when blending in prime 95 64bit edition. Which i think could be what is casuing the overclocks to fail as there running out of juice when stressed. Tho snowdog said it shouldnt be. I tryed enabling that vdroop preventer thing in bios but i havent tryed with it disabled or auto.

Using ur settings admiral i did 2.7 ok now im doin 3ghz and priming seems ok for last 20 mins also temps arnt as bad with line method of tim. :) Oh yeah and stock volts :)

Temps so far after 45 mins 57,58,52,51

Im thinking concaved cpu, because i looked at hsf and looked at letters on my mug and saw no distortion tho i should have used a pattern or somit really.
