Well after having loads of problems I think I'm finally happy with my rig.
I only have a 7600GS graphics card, but tbh it runs all my of games fine right now... so I think I'll upgrade the graphics when I actually have games that need a better card.
Okay so a lowdown on my problems and solutions;
Computer wouldn't power on - fans spin but nothing else
Stop being dumb and plug all three power connectors into the DS4
Windows XP install - "hard disk may be damaged"
dodgy windows CD probably. although I didn't have the problems on the P5B-Deluxe board which I bought when troubleshooting later on
Hot processor - 55'c idle
lapped processor and put as thin later as possible of AS5. Still at 40'c idle. I think it's a dodgy cooler
Company of Heroes crashing / Call of Duty 2 being picky / Battlefield 2 stuttering
Sold ATI card, obviously wasn't happy in my rig and had dodgy driver support. Bought Galaxy 7600GS. Sold RAM, bought 2GB G.Skill. Use no-cd patch for CoD2 as it doesnt like my cd drive drivers
Infinite Loop Error
Dissappeared along with the ATI card. Card worked fine in brothers PC but not in mine though.
Blurry screen - not completely crisp (19" Belinea widescreen TFT)
in nVidia contol panel, go to CRT monitor and move it up. screen goes blank for a second then comes on again, but was crystal clear. sorted!
Counter-Strike: Source - "memory could not be read"
start -> control panel -> add/remove programs ... you know the rest
none of the support @ steampowered or anywhere else helped my situation
Corrupt on-board Sound on P5B-Deluxe above 80% system volume
update audio drivers from ASUS website
Dodgy ASUS driver CD - crashes host computer
attempt to copy the CD if possible and run off the copy. or just don't use the CD and download it all
SO after what is now my second month of battling with this nightmare rig, it's finally working. CS:S is obviously just dodgy - as I have replaced the RAM, Mobo and Graphics card and had countless reformats (the long way) it still doesn't work.
Overclocking is on hold right now... everything runs fine and after having this rig not working properly at all for 2 months, I just don't care about overclocking right now!
But like I say, when new games come out, I will get a Tuniq Tower (goodbye dodgy Freezer 7 Pro) along with an 8800/8900 and will start overclocking this beasty.
*goes off to play Battlefield 2*
i'll edit my sig for my g.skill ram later too
