Was upgrading a system when I came across this under the heatsink

Somewhere under all that paste is an AthlonXP!

Brings back memories. When i worked in the returns of a manchester based reseller we used to get 4 or 5 of them a week.

"apply an even and generous coat of heatsink compound over the whole core of the cpu before attaching the heatsink".... ten guesses what they thought "core" meant!

99% of them did a really careful job of coating the entire chip ( except the core ) with paste and then brought them back saying "i followed the instructions very carefully but the cpu still overheated!" i kid you not.

I'm trying to trouble solve a XP2800+ problem. Pulled off the gigabyte heat-sink and it pulled the CPU out of the socket with it. There must have been a whole tube on there. It had all p155ed out the sides after it was clamped.

"one and a half grains of rice" it says on the website...

Some people :eyes:
