As title, more specifically, I think it's my mobo's SATA ports.

I had two WD caviar black's but the seond one wouldn't get recognised after a while. It would't show up in POST, during boot etc. I thought nothing of it and I didn't need that HDD anyway so didn't really care.

I recently moved to two OCZ Solid 3 120gb SSD's. The first one is detected and boots fine but the second one isn't. when installing windows, the second one wasn't detected until I faffed about for 45 mins. The second SSD isn't showing up anymore and hasn't done so since I got it (the day they came out ;))

Today, I was watching TV and my comp was on. When returned to my comp, it had restarted and booted from the HDD rather than the SSD as it was supposed to. The first SSD wasn't detected until I reconnected the SATA's physically. The second SSD isn't being detected at all. It's turning on properly, but that's it!

My mobo is an Asus P6X58D-E and my BIOS was flashed a few months ago to the latest one.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem? is it RMA time?

Thanks

Never seen you mentioning switching Sata ports? You said you tried new cables etc. Was this Sata cables or power cables?

Try using a different sata connections from the PSU, try switching the sata port to a higher number, 5 or 6 perhaps.

Also try resetting your CMOS. Perhaps flashing back to an older version of the BIOS if the new rom didn't update anything essentially required by yourself.

I tried both new power and SATA cables. I also did try another port which didn't work either.

I'll try the CMOs a bi later and the BIOs was flashed for system stability so can't go back to the old one :(

I doubt the drives are at fault. You could try running WD Lifeguard diagnostics on them. See what it reports.

If all else fails. I'd say a new board is in order. Not much else you can do.

Unless you buy yourself a PCI-E Sata adapter. The Startech one is recommended.

i7 930 @ 4.2ghz, 6gb RAM, GTX 580.

Not certain abou what I should do about RAM as I need to get it to dual if I upgrade.

Is the system just for games? If so, then I honestly wouldn't bother. I use a [email protected] and it keeps up with literally every game I play, Bad Company 2 etc which is cpu hungry.

If you want to spend some cash, get some monitors or some new peripherals/speakers.

Wait till the next gen or the one after that.

Thanks for stopping me :)

I'll blow my money on liquid cooling and 3D :)

The mobo was working perfectly until a few months ago whe I removed my RAID array and shortly after, the second SATA3 port wouldn't work unless I held a cable in there forcefully. Even then it would stop working after a while.

Sounds like a disaster. Maybe you should have mentioned this earlier and we would have came to the conclusion it was the board a bit sooner :p
