i tried i give in

were grid and dirt2 console ports?

I have both of those games on Steam and they are really good. I just feel that PC games are tracking just above console games rather than progressing with the hardware that we now have. When they design a game for 3 platforms, the different versions arn't going to vary that much. What I mean is, they won't make use of the PCs hardware knowing that they can't then then port the game to consoles so they makesure the game isn't too demanding for all platforms.

rant over back to the calm off lockon2 :D

Typing of the Dead was actually a pretty good port

What big name games are cross platform I would love to know  as there are only a handful of cross platform games & these are nearly all 360 vs PC (4 that I know of are all GFWL titles as well & only 3 have been released so far). Think you meant to say big name games are multiplatform games surely like The Force Unleashed1 + 2 :p

Depends how much of a pedantic tool you are I suppose.

No I'm talking Stalker, wings of prey, x3, etc.

You do know that Wings of Prey is a console port right?

Dragon Age was a PC>Console game. PC version was finished first, then they cut it down and ported it to console.

Mass Effect 1 was a great port. The interface was enhanced for they PC and improved drastically.

And there are loads of good current PC-only releases. In fact there are too many to bother posting a list here!

Plenty of cross platform games are fine on the PC. The game which the OP mentions, Dirt 2, runs superbly on PCs as do all Codemasters games - superior to their console counterparts in fact which are lower res and locked to 30fps.

So in summary, this is a silly thread :)

This. Dont understand why people moan, the PC versions are 90% of the time superior, they run better, they look a hell of a lot better and they are cheaper

Never heard of it. I'll look it up

 ... You are joking right? It's hard to detect sarcasm sometimes on the internet...

But yeah, the PC does not get as much attention these days because of popularity. The mainstream (Consoles) is where the easy money making is at and that's the path developers follow. Developers like Valve, Blizzard and Bioware (To name a few) still put effort into their PC games and PC versions of ports are usually better.

As for GFWL, I agree that it can be a pain. There have been times when I have been playing Dawn of War 2 or GTA 4 and have not been able to save due to my internet being down, but other than that I can live with it.

Oh, and I hate GFWL too. However I'm proactive and remove it. ;)

Use something like XLiveless and you can be proactive too!

(Failing that just play Dwarf Fortress. :D Eat that consoles!)

Never had a problem with GfWL that wasn't my fault, even then that's only a couple of times

Nothing wrong with it
