After trying to get my SATA 150 drive to work with my asrock conroexfire sata2 mobo, it turns out to be sata 300 only. All this after i'd bought the drive and emailed asrock who ensured me it was compatible.

I pop the motherboard cd in the drive and what does the message say?

Conroexfire esata2 is not serial ATA motherboard.

Well asrock won't be getting much more of my money that's for sure. Know your product next time me thinks...

Hmm running a WD 40Gb and 200Gb WD SATA1 Hdd in that same board without issues. Has your drive got a jumper maybe for force SATA150 speed on a SATAII controller? My WD 40Gb has but i did'nt need to use it.

well i can't get the drive to be recognised at all. when i try and just install windows it says no drive, and then when i put the mobo disk in it says this is not a serial ATA compatible board!

what now?

used this board all saturday nice board, you need to make a serial ata (raid disk ) floppy disk
its on the cd, you get with the board.
you have to press f6 at the start of the windows so that u caninstall the driver for the controler.

gavindo :)

so...

put in the windows cd for installation

When asked if i want to install windows i press F6 instead and put the motherboard cd rom in the drive

should be fine?

I had exactly the same issue, changed it to ide mode and it works fine. not sure if its the best or right thing to do though as you would expect to have to install the drivers for it to work correctly?

Ok, had some time today and i figured it out. Forget the F6 method from Asrock for RAID or ACHI on this board, the textmode drivers don't seem to load the PnP regular XP drivers needed for XP to boot. What i did was download the Intel Matrix F6 drivers, extracted them from the foppy and slipstreamed both the normal PnP and the textmode drivers. Works a treat now and the error message you had about not supported when you tried to install the SATA drivers will not happen in RAID or ACHI mode. Currently have it in RAID 5 with 3 40Gb drives seen as 76Gb. Haven't tried the Matrix drivers as a standalone floppy via F6 but i got a feeling it'll work and the drivers Asrock supplied are dud.
