I tunes and external HDD

Hi, My big music collection weighs down my computer a lot, + I have an Ipod + itunes = Pc death. I am quierying whether I can run my music collection from a portable HDD, so the program and everything 'apple' is on the external HDD. Then to update my ipod I plug the hdd in and plug my ipod into the PC. will this work, any other options ?

It will work, but you will need to reinstall Quicktime on any PC/other OS you take the removable hard drive to.

it will be on the same pc most of the time , i just dont want my music making mmy boot time like 3 mins

Yeah - it works no problems. iTunes moves the music files off to the external drive and keeps the library data in the usual place. If you run iTunes with the external drive removed it will change the library back to the default location tho.

I've no idea why it will make your boot time 3 minutes - they're just files. Try a defragger!

i have i got another thread going about my slow boot problems, I need to reformat I think but keeping everything is going to be hard

yeah its not the music making your boot times so long.
