Hello Peeps.
About to graduate and wanting to get back into gaming.
I've usually went for nvidia for all my builds, but looking at around £250 budget for a gpu to run Playerunknown & CSGO mainly. And any other game I decide to try out at maybe medium settings.

Is any AMD card worth to get over nvidia? I'm not too sure on the differences apart from price lol

For anything up to and including the upper mid-range segment, yes, AMD is definitely worth considering.

AMD's new lineup, Vega, is due out in a couple of months, though I very much expect that will be considerably more costly than what you're looking to spend anyway.

I'd look at the RX 480/580; something like the Powercolor Devil or XFX GTR models would be among my choices. Just make sure your CPU and PSU are up to scratch. :)

580 all the way if you want to look for a used 980 Ti with warranty still I'd consider that as a Ti is a totally different card vs the 580

Yes definitely go for the cheaper non-X Ryzen 6 core for your CPU.

All Ryzen's are overclockable, and they all run cool due to being soldered, so if you get a half-decent cooler you can overclock them to 3.8 GHz (pretty much guaranteed) to 4 GHz (rarer but not crazy rare).

Also you only need a B350 motherboard to overclock, you don't have to go for X370 if you're on a budget.

Personally I'm on the 8-core 1700 overclocked to 3.9 GHz, and with a Noctua D15 it doesn't hit 60 degrees.

So a 6 core at 3.8 GHz should be hilariously easy to cool.

Yeah what Allbodies said, the B350 tomahawk is a great board paired with a R6 and 580 will serve well

+1 for Ryzen/RX580 combo

The CPU is a no-brainer really.

The 580 is my top mid-range pick. The alternative for me would be getting a use 980ti if you can find one near that price, which would give you better performance (but then you'd have the worry of the state of the equipment as always with used stuff).

This looks interesting! deffo different since i last built one. Although i've never overclocked anything before, and was too scared. Is it that difficult?

What cpu/motherboard do you currently have? No point building a new pc if you can achieve a decent boost by dropping a better cpu in.

Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z87 & cpu is like £50 its really old. It's a computer I built my mum, which she doesnt need anymore. So im taking it haha

Agreed in principle with Pastymuncher.

However, due to Intel's pricing you could get the AMD 1600 + Mobo for the same price as an i7 4790k. That being the best CPU that motherboard can have.

And of course you could sell the current CPU and Z87 mobo if no one needs it.

So net cost of going AMD will actually be cheaper, and it'll be faster and more future proof in things which can use more than 4 cores.

Pick up a second hand 4790k from the MM. They have been going for around £150 lately. Most will hit at least 4.5Ghz with a decent cooler. That makes more sense to me than going through the expense and hassle of building a new pc.

The CPU is intel pentium dual core 3.2Ghz, it's a old build I took from my mums pc I made her for basic browsing lol.
Corsair cx430 psu & the Mob, I guess i could sell it and get peanuts for it lol.
Case fractal R5 which is still in good condition.

The CPU may be worth peanuts, but the mobo and PSU should be worth up to £100 together.

I see the AMD spend thrifts are out in force.

For what you want, on your original budget a 2nd hand i5 4670K @ £100-£125 or less if your lucky is your best bet and a lot less hassle.

With Ryzen not only would you need need a new Mobo, but ram and a new PSU to run it. (i7 would probably be too much with an RX4/580 on the CX430)
Costs keep mounting up and your not going to get much more performance with Ryzen on the games you mentioned. (If any at all)

And a RX 480 8Gb 8000Mz £210

Main reason for 480 over 580 is you PSU will be getting close it it's limit with a reasonable margin. It could run an RX 580, but certainly a lot closer to it's maximum output.

I missed the psu bit. The CX430 is a fairly poor quality psu and depending on which version it is has only 336w or 384w on it's 12v rail. Recent sales of 4670k's in the MM have seen them go for £95. I would still hang on for a 4770k or even better a 4790k though. A new build when a simple cpu upgrade will give a significant performance boost is madness and unneccessary.
