Hey! I have NEVER EVER has a TFT in my life, EVER! I've always used shobby 17" 1024*768 res CRT Screens that just about do 85Hz.

Enough is enough.

Got some money. Around £150 - £200. I'm going to do some SERIOUS looking. Basically, i'm looking for a widescreen, and I thought anything above 19" is too much for me seeing as i'm doing everyday apps and games.

Now, because i've never had a TFT it's hard for me to research on these things as I don't know where to start.

1) So my first question is can you point me in the right direction? What am I loooking at? I have a DVI graphics card (HIS Excalibur x800xl :) ).

2) Is 19" Widescreen used a lot? Will I have problems with games, apps etc?

3) Where can I get more info about 19" Widescreen TFTs in short layman's terms?

4) Stupid question, do black and silver colour schemes have different features? I've got an alluminium Lian Li case, and ideally would be looking for a silver one.

5) Do I HAVE to use the onboard speakers on the screen? Because I know there are some good screens with crap speakers.

6) I just read about HDMI. It's High Defination screening is it not? I assume this will cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks! :)

1. Hyundai N91W looking good at the moment, dual VGA and a DVI. My housemate's got two side by side :)

2. Don't have a problem with most games, if they don't have native widescreen you can get a patch/hack for most. Or have it stretched.
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Master_Games_List_-_A is a good place to start.

3. Read lots of reviews, I'm sure someone else can point you in the direction of some specific ones, or can provide a comparison from their experience.

4. Different colour schemes don't generally have different features, but most manufacturers don't offer a colour choice...

5. Don't have to use the onboard speakers at all, they just connect to the computer with a standard 3.5mm jack, just ignore it.

6. HDMI still in it's infancy regarding monitors, and a touchy subject with all the business about DRM. Wouldn't worry about it, only a few higher end monitors cater for it at the moment :)
