Hi all, I'm not playing WoW at the moment and don't have good enough net here to play online games. Please could you recommend me a game which is easily downloadable, runs on my MacBook and which you have enjoyed:

For example, I like games where I have to think.
I am a big fan of medieval total war type games
I am not a big fan of sports-based games (with the exception of Champ Man or FM)
I like shooting games etc too.
Anything goes as long as you'd recommend it and enjoyed it. I pretty much like all games so fire away, good people of OcUK!



oh and can you put a link (if its against the rules then dont) to where I can get it from please?

well i couldnt take my pc here so am with a brand new MacBook. Surely there's something that will run?
Don't most normal games run on Macs?
 
Some good native games:

Warcraft3
Neverwinter Nights & Expansions
Darwinia
Tomb Raider Anniversary (demo)
World Of Warcraft
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
Quake4
Guitar Hero 3

EA released some Cider based versions of C&C3, BF2142, NFS:Carbon etc aswell.

I have GuildWars running on CrossoverGames atm (@1920x1200) aswell which supports loads of windows games (eg:TF2,CS:S,HL2,Eve Online).

Apple have a dedicated games site which has demo's & the latest updates on it.

Also you should be able to play literally any windows game using bootcamp & XP
 
I have a MacBook and used to have the following games installed under OSX and they ran great.

UT
Quake 3
ET
Warcraft 3
Starcraft

But now i don't bother with games under OSX as games run much better and you obviously have more choice under windows. I currently have the following installed on my Windows XP partition (Bootcamp) and again they play very well.

CS 1.6
UT
ET
Warcraft 3
Starcraft
BF1942 + Desert Combat
Quake 3

The general rule of thumb with the MacBook is that games upto 2006 should work well anything beyond that is hit and miss. Don't listen to the Myth that CSS works well on the MacBook, It doesn't even with all the settings on low it's still not playable.

good list there . might i add medal of honor allied assualt, cod 1 and united offensive (i think its on mac too)

I just noticed you said macbook :)

Most old games should run fine, but as said above cs-s ,guildwars, quake4 etc probably won't run too well. Would be interesting to know if the Tomb Raider Anniversary demo runs ok or not :D

My favourite game, a few years ago when I was travelling with laptop and staying in hotels was Warcraft3 :)
