So I don't want to spend more than £10 on earphones, I don't care if they are not pro, I just want them to be nice and loud so I can listen to my songs on the way to uni/work/etc.

Which brand should I be after? And what sort of specs? How can I look at the specifications of certain earplugs and say "ok these are loud"? Does it have to do with ohms or what?

Enlight me please, I have a pair of ipod earplugs but they are not loud at all.

How about these ? They seem ok and you can get them for around £13 so it's not that bad...

They don't have a good reputation to be honest. I'd pay a few more quid for the KSC-75.

But... What is your player? If you listen to the iPod at max volume on the earphones, you are seriously going to damage your hearing!

Impedance does affect how loud it can get if the source is not very powerful, but unless you use full sized cans, most players can play loud enough to cause long term hearing damage with most portable earphones. IEMs will appear louder since they do isolate ambient noise, and the worse thing you can do is to try "covering" the ambient noise with non isolating earphones. I suppose that in that sense, the plug may well be your only choice if you really restrict your budget in the lower end of £10.

yeah forget the plugs, they are terrible, really muffled sound i dont know what they were thinking when they made them  cant really advise any others as i use headphones mostly

I couldn't wait and bought them already :o

I know that noise cancelling headphones are much better for your ears, but I can't hear well anyway so I guess whatever damage there is to be done has been done :p

Also £100 on a pair of earphones seems a bit steep guys...

I use a pair of Shure e3c's with my iPod mini - they are supposed to be some of the best in ear "phones" available. But, I wouldn't say they were nearly as good as a decent cheaper pair of conventional head band type phones.

If I were to buy again, I wouldn't even consider in ear phones, as they are tinny, and quite fatiguing and uncomfortable after prolonged use.

£10 won't really buy you much. But up to £30 you could get some great portable phones.

Look at the sennheisser px100, koss KSC-75, and koss KSC-35. The senns are small phones that go on your head and the koss's clip on your ears. If you want in ear monitors then see if you can stretch to a pair of shure e2cs.

M'well it is kinda late since he already went with the plug ;)

The MX500 probably wouldn't be loud for him since it isn't meant to be louder than stock earbuds... just better sounding. Earbuds (as opposed to IEM) are open, so you still need to play at silly hearing damaging level to cover the ambient noise (something you shouldn't be doing with open phones in the first place).

The Plugs are great for the money, let the guy try them before drawing conclusions about them. I certainly wouldn't class them as terrible.

DAMN THESE ARE GOOD!

They loud, much louder than the original ipod ones, and the bass kicks arse :D

I look a bit funny wearing them, but oh well!
