I've got that Keysonic, great although it's missing dedicated transport controls. But I guess there are hotkeys ie N for next chapter.

I got a Media Centre remote and would recomend it as long as your in bed viewing is just movies or vids, as it doesnt control the mouse, just all the media functions. (This is in XP Pro too, not MCE)

It will if you set pressing the standby button to shutdown in power management... Or you could just use it for standby. I do all the time

Got bluetooth?

Fair few phones come with remote control apps (at least all the Sony Ericsson ones I've used have)

Can control mouse movement/clicks and media players + more.

There are other 3rd party bluetooth controls which you can use too.

I've a leadtek tv card that came with a remote, this gives you the option of turning the PC on or off, even if the TV app. is not running.

At the moment I am unable to get this to fully work with Vista, it brings up the screen to choose whether to shut down/radio/TV etc. but when I press OK it doesn't do anything.

AFF

Have you looked at the iMon? Comes with a LCD display too. I think Soundgraph also make a version thats just a remote, but I've never seen it for sale anywhere.

You can use the remote to move the mouse, customise the key functions for different programs and turn it on and off.

PK!
