I'm toying with the idea of shelving my O2 wireless box II and replacing it with a nice wireless gigabit router.
The reason being that I want to speed up the file transfer speed from my PC to my PS3.
I really know very little baout routers, so any recommendations will be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance! :)

Are your PC and PS3 using wired or wireless?

If wired, just buy a cheap gigabit switch, plug both into the switch, and then connect the switch to the LAN ethernet port of your current router.

If wireless, there is no such thing as gigabit wireless, the best you could get would be a wireless router supporting 802.11n which would be faster than 100Mbit ethernet but slower than gigabit.

Both currently wired with Cat5, so obviously I'll have to grab some Cat6 if I sort out gigabit.

Eh? why CAT6? CAT5e is rated to 100m+ for 1Gbit and 40m for 10Gbit. CAT6 is not significantly better than CAT5e, it's CAT6a thats rated for 100m @10Gbit.

So it sounds like you should get a gigabit switch, and another CAT5e cable..

From what I understand the PS3 will only operate at gigabit speeds using a Cat6 cable.
