I want HD

Right then people, the same old tireless question, how do I get a 'High definition' (preferably 1080p) picture through my comp?

I've seen a lot of monitors with suitable resolution, but very few that support HDCP, which I think i'm correct in saying I would need in order to say view a piece of HD video from my hard drive on the screen, or via a blu ray drive?

I'm looking for a 22" / '21.5"' + monitor / telly capable of 1920x1080 res or higher that I can connect to my graphics card (8800gts g92) to play blu ray discs through - so I'll need a br drive too.

Any help would be appreciated, the 'HD' acronym seems to be nothing but trouble for consumers.

HDCP compatibility is a pain in the rear...

Fortunatly VGA fallback with full quality works on all current blu-ray releases... but theres no guarantee it will be supported or supported at full quality in the future as the spec is for reduced quality on VGA.

To stand a chance of full HDCP you need a display with HDMI, a GPU with native HDMI (no dongle) and HDCP certified display and GPU (not all that have HDMI are).

Well my Dell 2209WA connected via DVI to a Pallit GeForce GTX260 is HDCP capable according to Nvidia's control panel, my 8800GT on the same monitor was also.

I have never put this to the test though, but the drivers tell me it is functioning correctly.

So assuming your graphics card is HDCP capable over DVI, then the Dell 2209WA is too, however, it will not display a full HD resolution, indeed it's 1680x1050 ...which makes this post largely irrelevant I suppose.

However, I 'guess' Dell's higher resolution displays will also support HDCP. I can't remember weather my Dell 2407 did or not tbh.

Since they (dvi and hdmi) are pin-compatible, a convertor shouldnt make any difference. I would stay clear of cheap ones though as they could possible screw the hdcp up.
