Hi,

I want to add a Mac to my current setup.

My current setup consists of 2 PC's and a Laptop.

PC1 Game Rig, Intel Core2Duo Q6600 4GB Ram, 8800GTX, 2X500gb, Vista64.
PC2 Old gaming Rig, AMD X2 4400+, 2GB 7800GTX 200GB, XP.
Laptop, Intel Core2Duo 1.86GHz, 7600M, 160GB, Vista32.

PC1 is used for prity much everything, its on all day everyday.
PC2 is literally used to look at dodgy adult sites ;) and put songs on my ipod touch as it dont work on vista 64 yet.
Laptop is taken with me if im going to be away from my PC for more than 1 day, and surfing from the sofa. It gets used for games while i'm at my dads or feeling lazy. My sister uses it to look at the internet while iv not got my hands on it also.

Basically im looking to get rid of either PC2 or the laptop and replace it with a mac. Im considering 24" iMac or a Macbook Pro. If i were to go iMac it would be used for everything but gaming, the Macbook Pro would be used as the current laptop is now but it would also take over the duties that PC2 is doing now. But i cant decide which, anyone wanting to shed some light onto me urge to get a mac?

Im swayed towards an iMac slightly because its slightly cheaper, but im woried about the quality of the screen I'm using a NEC 20WGX2 which is a extreemly good screen and i dont want a drop in quality. I would not be selling what is being replaced as my mum needs a new PC.

Give the laptop to your sister, give PC2 to your mum, and buy a MacBook Pro.

I wouldn't bother getting an iMac, seeing that you use the uber gaming rig for just about everything :) You might consider a vanilla MacBook, the larger screen and graphics chip are the only substantive differences between that and the Pro.

The 24" iMac screen will be as good as your existing NEC, as it's an S-IPS panel. The new Alu 20" iMac has gone backwards from an S-IPS to the cheaper TN panels.

If it were me I'd replace the laptop with a 15" MBP.

I replaced a Dell lappy with an MBP 18 months ago and I've not looked back. Desktop PC was occasionally getting used for gaming until the motherboard bust and I didn't really miss it once it went.

magicboy i have just purchase a 24" imac it's a prety amazing piece of kit i got 2gig of ram with mine about a week ago
unfortunatley with work commitments etc i dont have enough time to sit around and use it so if your interested in buying mine email me and make me an offer.

Well my current music collection is not far off the base MBP hard disk size, so i think ill just end up with a 2.5" external for it and plug it into the firewire. But im thinking that im going to need arround 60GB for bootcamp anyway so im going to need the bigger disk anyway

Luckily I have about 103Gb left on my internal MBP HD (out of 147) and about 80  of 187Gb in my eSATA 2.5" enclosure.

Might have to get another 200Gb USB Powered HD lol
