I was wondering if you guys had any reccommendations regarding graphics tablets for use with Photoshop. I would search but I cant at the moment.

first of i have never used one so sorry if im wrong with what i say. I have read peoples opinions before and have my own which is what it's based on.

tbh i wouldn't bother if i was you as theye can be very expensive and are not at all easy to use. don't go thinking if your good at photoshop you will be good at using one of these as they are 2 completely different things. Can you draw with a pencil and a piece of paper? how good? This is essentially the exact same thing so if you can't draw, you can't use a graphical tablet.

Pick something from Wacom that you can afford.

LOL aint that the truth!

My girlfriend is a 2D animator and just loves to wish after more expensive tablets!

They are quiet useful once you get used to them though and if you can draw. I lake a lot of hand eye co-ordination so its useless for me but the GF does some good stuff on it, much better than what can be done with a mouse.

I love my wacom but its only A6 side I think. Getting an A5 wide in the next 2 weeks.
I can't draw that well, but it saves time from drawing on pencil and scanning in the retouching as you can just do it whilst drawing.
Definitely something I love to use but unless you are determined to get used to it, I wouldn't bother. It takes a while to get used to, best thing to do is unplug oyur mouse and jsut use graphics tablet for a week or so, works wonders then :)

Thanks for the reply. Well I can actually draw and have even sketched with a mouse before and got some good results. I used to draw way before I got into photoshop so it should all be OK. Gonna go and check out prices I think...

Ok so the Wacom A4 tablets are pretty expensive at 200 GBP. What about this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AIPTEK-12000U...ryZ39980QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It is A4 but has a lower resolution than the Wacoms of a similar size. It does however cost about 60 GBP which is a lot better. I dont really want to by the 'sony' of the tablets if there are perfectly good alternative (in terms of quality) that just lack the brand and thus are cheaper.

Ive read of folk who have used both the Aiptek and Wacom and they always say Wacom tablets are better.

But if its your first one then it should be fine for you, some things that the Wacom beats it on are its has tilt, battery free pen and double the pressure sensitivity.

Also remember that bigger isn't always better, Many people prefer a smaller tablet to minimize arm motion.

Bamboo looks great and it comes in at 70 pounds which is nice. Mat, have you used it? Why is it so cheap?

It doesn't mention anything about graphical work on the Bamboo site, so how suited it would be for Photoshop is debatable; however, I've never used one so i'm only speculating.

I would heartily recommend a Wacom tablet, even if you have to get a smaller size to suit your budget.

i've got an A5 Graphire bluetooth, it was about £150. It works really well as a mouse replacement for non-graphical work as well as photoshop/retouching. worth every penny.

I wouldn't go for a cheap alternative to Wacom though. never had any problems with mine.

INTUOS 3
Pressure sensitivity: 1,024 levels
Resolution: 5,080 lpi
Accuracy Pen: +/- 0.25mm
Tilt: +/- 60 degrees
Maximum reading height with Pen: 6 mm
Maximum report rate: 200 points per second
120 GBP
-------------------------------------
BAMBOO
Resolution 0.01 mm (2,540 dpi)
Maximum Reading Height 3-5 mm
Maximum Report Rate 133 pps
Accuracy +/- 0.5 mm
Pen Tip travel 0.1 mm
Pressure levels 512
70 GBP
-------------------------------------

Both models are from WACOM and are A6 wide format. It seems that the if you double the resolution you also double the price. I am wondering if any one who has used a tablet can tell me how important this resolution is and if A6 is too small to be really useful.

Thanks

I've heard that before... i'd say A5 wide would be the perfect fit if you have a widescreen monitor...

either way, wacom is the way forward, i've been investigating them as i'm getting one soon and wacom always comes out on top in reviews etc...

btw: chaos... nice sig, sasuke kicks ass!
