Yes, this is 100% unashamed bragging. If you don't like showoffs, turn around :D

I started working for my current firm almost a year ago to the day as a mechanical building services engineer. Seven weeks after starting, I was promoted to supervisor, responsible for five engineers. I look after a £500m, 350000ft² (office space) building in the square mile, a building which is built to a spec many can only dream of.

Now!

The company I work for is the largest in the world in its field, employs 77000 people, and turns over $1b a year.

Aaaand, our building has just been chosen as a trophy building for the company. This means we're going to have photographers round soon to take loads of photos which will end up on the company website, promotional material and quarterly magazine. This isn't an "employee of the month" kind of thing, it basically means that within London, we're the cream of the crop. And this company maintains a fair few hundred buildings in London.

I'm a wee bit proud today :D

Should there be a gloating thread? There's a few times I've wanted to gloat/brag about stuff but never bothered.

I quite enjoy seeing/reading about people being successful, it makes a change from all the doom/gloom/et al. that seems to be associated with threads about people being unhappy in their jobs, etc...

...and yes, can we have some details/pics? I work in that geographical area so would be interested to swing by for a nose...

Thanks guys, it's been a LOT of sweat and tears (seriously, this job has come very close to breaking me) but the fact that we're so well recognised means a hell of a lot. My team is fantastic, couldn't hope for better guys really, they deserve most of the credit, I'm just a whinger to get stuff done :D

I'll post photos up when they're taken ofc, but if anyone wants to Google it in the mean time, the building is called Woolgate Exchange. Rumour has it it's one of the last buildings in the city which is a freehold, how true that is I don't actually know.

Just feels good, I've been barking up this tree for a decade now, trying to climb and make my mark but actually achieving it is a fantastic feeling, and one I hope that many can experience too. I printed off the email in a massive font and stuck it on the workshop wall for all to see, I honestly couldnt have done this without my guys so excellent work from them :D

Excellent, I know Norland, been to many of there sites when I was on the road.

I was formally York Refrigeration and one of the old serice mangers went to Norland and got a good pay out when CBRE bought them out (what I hear from the grape vine :p)

Very cool :D Congratulations :) It's always nice to see when you're hard work pays off, you're clearly making an impression :D

Cheers guys. I'm being sent on a course next week too: "contract negotiation" which is upper level management stuff so hopefully there's a reason for this :D

Also, in other news, I'm starting to use supplier offers to boost team morale where possible. I've already changed a "let's go to lunch, gief bznz pls" meeting to "come to site and give all our guys a bacon and sausage sammich" occasion which my crew loved. This week we've been invited to the Floating Lotus at Canary Wharf to watch the England Wales game, all expenses paid. I'm working on the logistics of getting some of our guys there so they can enjoy it too, but it's going to be a challenge.

It's really good though. I must admit that I'm thoroughly enjoying the job and working for a company which has a very obvious interest in their staff makes the world of a difference. Watch this space :D
